Despite its short history, the architectural zenith of what is defined as the age of enlightenment brings forth a gift of the Seljuk renaissance- ‘ku¨ndekari’, woodworking that ‘resembles the blossoms buried under the unexpected snowstorm’ derived from the pen of Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar.An art that always selects the most valuable trees on which to work. Ku¨ndekari proclaims the refined and simple harmony of nature, using the most meticulous workmanship and the most magical techniques of design, so much so that these techniques are still being kept a secret. The physical description of ‘ku¨ndekari’ is marked by a masterpiece of small geometrical pieces meticulously fitted into one another; its spiritual description and essence of design lies in faith and eternal life. The art and the artist, the art of ‘ku¨ndekari’ and the ‘ku¨ndekari’ artist are blessed with the virtue of patience. The frailty and capabilities that patience, skills and nature have bequeathed to wood, to trees have been molded by the ‘ku¨ndekari’ artist by working in both dampness and heat; the mathematical harmony of nature is brought to life in the decoration, adornments, and woodcarving. No motif is left to chance, each is a symbol of faith and mastery and the master shows his mastery in the symmetry of the motifs that echoes the order in the universe and is attributed to infinity. This is our tribute to the masters, the designers, the Seljuk civilization, to our Great Seljuk heritage in acknowledgment of the unique and aesthetic products it has left behind to share on a wide geography spanning over 28 different countries, the assets that created a culture in the east. All of the relief patterns on this vase, designed with the geometrical patterns of the art of ‘ku¨ndekari’, have been painted and gilded in platinum on handmade midnight blue glass, presented with the workmanship and mastery of Paşabahçe.
