The Murassa* Chess Set is inspired from the remaining pieces of the original 16th century chess set.
Ottoman chess pieces were usually figureless.
The original set is decorated with various openwork and firuzekârî motifs. Gold mounted cabachon ruby or turquoise stones are used on top of the chess pieces. Nine of the pieces bear ruby and six turquoise.
The pieces in the Murassa Chess Set are all handmade with handmade glass. They are decorated with gold leaf and glass paint. Semi-precious natural onyx stone is used on the pieces.
*Murassa means decorated with precious stones and gems.
