Our ceramic masters, artisans, artists, designers who blended the long history of camaraderie of earth and fire, using the most basic, simple and modest materials, the old Anatolian Civilizations with the Turkish- Islamic tradition. A beautiful legacy that focused the admiration and interest of the world to Anatolia, bringing a cultural and aesthetic heritage to its zenith in İznik. The bountiful soils of Anatolia put its stamp on the thousands of years of ceramic history and from the moment this journey began at Çatalhöyu¨k, those same soils accompanied the ceramic masters, offering them all of their colors, carrying the art of ceramics from the Neolithic Age to the Roman and Byzantine Eras, and then on to the era of the Seljuks and of the Ottomans, making Anatolia the motherland of the art. Thanks to the artistic creative power that accompanied the unique observational skills and abilities of the masters to turn their observations into symbols, the Assyrian tradesmen who entrusted their letters to the baked earth tablets they wrote on, the Hittites who recorded all of their commercial and social lives on clay tablets, in Ku¨tahya, in Çanakkale, all the way to İznik, all through the eras, the schools of masters wielded their brushes, producing detailed masterpieces of decorative art, unique stylistic pieces of matchless color, design, and mastery, all of the objects of our intangible cultural heritage. ‘Saz’ style founded in the first half of the sixteenth century in the Ottoman Palace by a master craftsman named ‘Şah Kulu’, inspired by the patterns of a kaftan cloth that Suleiman the Magnificent had the palace tailors make for his two sons, is used on the decorations of this candle holder; the base is of decorated ceramic, the upper body of handmade glass in relief patterns, presented with the workmanship and mastery of Paşabahçe.
