Opaque twist glassware began to be produced by craftsmen in Beykoz during the reign of Sultan Selim III (1789-1807). Rods of coloured crystal glass were incorporated into the crystal glass body and twisted to produce spiraling designs. These designs were likened to nightingales’ eyes, and hence this ware became known as “Eye of Nightingale” in Turkish. Opaque twist glassware is produces by traditional methods by Paşabahçe.
